Clipper Tea Packaging

I am a tea drinker through and through. Coffee has never really done it for me but tea? I’m about as loyal as they come. Yesterday, I stumbled across Clipper Tea at our local supermarket and I’m totally smitten with their packaging! It has just the right amount of whimsy. I love the way it works with illustration, color and hand drawn type. Just goes to show you what really smart packaging can do to something as basic as tea. Well done Clipper, well done.

Dear Mr. President…

We’ve been seeing a lot of envelopes headed to the White House lately… what do you guys think about this trend? Legend has it that Mr. Obama HIMSELF will write you a very lovely congratulatory note if you invite him to your wedding. Kind of fun to think our designs are gracing the mailboxes of the White House. I’m thinking I might invite him to my own shindig in December- fingers crossed we’ll see him in Brooklyn!

The Perfectly Imperfect Home

While in California, my dear friend Jenni gifted me the book “The Perfectly Imperfect Home” by Deborah Needleman {the founding editor of domino magazine}. It is an amazing little book full of little gems about how to make your house a home and the backdrop to your life. What I really respond to in the book are the amazing illustrations by the super talented Virginia Johnson. I have been a big fan of Virginia’s work for awhile now. Her whimsical watercolor illustrations bring the book to life and make this book one big piece of inspiration. I keep carrying the book around with me because I just love looking at it. The content and artwork make me happy, they also really make me want a new apartment…

Color Inspiration

My darling little sis sent me this awesome scarf in the mail the other day. I am really into the way it plays with color and pattern. I love when random colors are paired together, like hot pink and tan or cobalt and red. It’s fun to break color rules and go against the grain. I also adore the mixing and matching of stripes. I am using this as inspiration for a new branding job I am working on… stay tuned!

California Dreamin’

Back from my little jaunt to California and I must say- I am seriously questioning my East Coast lifestyle! The weather was perfect and the scenery was unreal, I was just about ready to start up Swiss Cottage Designs- West Coast Edition. Here is to a lovely week back back home on the good ole’ East Coast.

Pinned It!

Alas! We are finally on Pinterest and loving every second of it. You can not go on Pinterest and walk away uninspired- it’s simply impossible. The shear amount of ideas, eye candy and design work is unreal. I am excited to start pinning more {our boards are still a wee bit fetal} and seeing what else the crazy interwebs holds for us. For those of you who don’t know what Pinterest is {where ya been?} it’s on online “mood board” so to speak. You can collect images that inspire you, pin them to your online board, and have all your inspiration in one tidy place. Genius. Working on getting our snazzy Pinterest icon set up on the blog but in the meantime, you can follow our boards here!

Spring Weekends

With the sun staying out longer and longer each day, it really feels like summer is right around the corner. I’ve taken up my daily ice tea walks which is always a surefire sign the weather is changing {maybe I had a doughnut this week with my ice tea…. it’s been a stressful week, no judgements.} We’re keeping busy taking care of our Spring brides and a few other fun projects. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

SCD on Martha Stewart Weddings

For a lot of brides, Martha Stewart weddings is ground zero for wedding planning. It might actually end up being the first sight you check out. The site has a wealth of resources for any bride jumping into their wedding planning. They also have a great blog, The Brides Guide, that makes for a fun daily read. They just updated their stationery inspiration section and included several Swiss Cottage pieces in the mix. This is such a great honor for us because, let’s be honest, we’re obsessed with Martha. There is some seriously amazing work in there by some really talented designers, go have a look!
