It’s a weird Halloween this year in NYC. The storm has totally turned us all upside down but as New Yorkers do, everyone is picking up and moving forward. Nevertheless, Halloween is still my favorite holiday {and my parent’s wedding anniversary!} so tonight we’ll celebrate with It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and some candy corn. Fellow NYC folk- stay safe and to everyone else, Happy Halloween!

Small things
Tuesdays are always the armpit of the week, or is that just how I view them? They are a good day to give yourself a little ‘pick me up’ to help the day go by just a bit quicker. I might just have to treat myself to that Vanilla Chai at the fancy French bistro Dunkin’ Donuts that I’ve been eying. Hmm….
Inspiration Station: Day of the Dead
I love Halloween. It’s the one holiday that literally gets me so excited every year! The day of the dead usually falls in that Halloween camp but is certainly has it’s own style all together. On Saturday I went to dinner at Gran Eléctrica in DUMBO and was totally bowled over by their wallpaper. Designed by Dan Funderburgh, the wallpaper is inspired by Dia de los Muertos but takes a humorous approach by placing all the scenes in DUMBO {a local Brooklyn neighborhood}. My favorite part is the skeleton baby in the stroller- so brilliant. I found out that the wallpaper was printed by local company, Flavor Paper, and can be purchased through their site. This news is incentive enough to want to buy a house so I can wallpaper everything in this print. My hats off to you Mr. Funderburgh for creating one of the most fantastic illustrations I have seen this year.

Fall is in the air
As a New Yorker, one of the sure fire ways to know what holiday is around the corner is to check out the bodegas. They always have copious amounts of holiday goods on the ready. Right now, it’s pumpkin mania. Outside of our neighborhood bodega there are boxes of gorgeous pumpkins, gourds and autumn flowers, it makes me so excited as this is my absolutely favorite time of year- hands down. Happy Friday everyone, hope you all can enjoy a pumpkin or two this weekend.
‘Gram It.
My new favorite form of social media is hands down Instagram. I am a little slow to draw when it comes to social media but I finally broke down when my friend Jenna convinced me to start posting more on it this past summer. Now I’m totally hooked. It’s so fun to jump on and get a burst of inspiration from all the amazingly creative people I follow. Here are a few snaps from our recent ‘grams {yes, I’m that corny}. If you’re feeling you need some more SCD in your life, you can follow us @swisscottagedesigns
editing photos of our new projects- stay tuned for more pics on those!

Fun with numbers
I love that today is 10-11-12. It feels like a full-moon almost, like something weird is bound to happen when the numbers collide. Spooky….
My fun little project with My Beeting Heart was posted yesterday. You can see what a culinary master I am with my extremely sophisticated avocado sandwich.
Happy 10-11-12 everyone!
Freshen Up
Tighten up, freshen up, shape up… you get the picture. After a very busy summer and a September that felt like it never happened, we’re getting back into shape over here with some in-house projects that have been hanging around. First order of business: taking pictures of our new work. We’ve done some really fun projects this year and I’ve been dying to share them with you all. The very talented Susan Pittard of Susan Pittard Photography came over last Friday to help us, well, look good. Susan also runs a blog called My Beeting Heart where she shares tips on how maintain a healthy lifestyle. We took some time out of our shoot on Friday to do a fun piece for My Beeting Heart which she will share on her blog this week {we’ll also post it over here!} We’ll be sharing some of our new work here very soon- stay tuned!
Wedding Humor
It’s good to have a sense of humor about your wedding day. Given all the stress that comes along with planning, it’s hard not to get caught up in it all. When my friend sent me this link, it completely made my day. Nothing like a little light wedding humor {I see notes of myself in this chart!} to help keep it all in perspective. Zoom in to read the funny commentary through the illustration. My favorite is about the baby in the $800 outfit– brilliant.

Wedding Stamps
When it came to my own wedding invite postage, I had a serious dilemma {maybe I’m being a wee bit dramatic when I say serious but let’s just go with it}. My heart wanted to go with vintage stamps but I knew the design worked better with some of the awesome modern designs out there. I ended up going with current stamps from the USPS and I’m pretty stoked with what we’re working with. I mean, look at those Miles Davis stamps- ahhh! My invites are at press now, no going back now! Can’t wait to share those soon.
A British Cupp A
I’m beyond predictable. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a sucker for cute British illustrations {my latest loungewear purchase can back me up here}. My good friend was lucky enough to go to London this summer to watch the Olympics. She brought me back this darling card. In true Courtney fashion, I’ll never actually use it. I’ll just look at it and enjoy it because sometimes that is just enough.
