Sophie Blackall Subway Ads

Sophie Blackall is the amazing illustrator behind the “Missed Connections” blog and book. She is wildly talented and now every New York City subway rider can enjoy her awesome work. She created ads for the MTA based off of her Missed Connections blog. I love the random assortment of people; each person could have their own story written about them. As an illustrator myself, I admire her attention to detail. Little things like the dog popping out of the guys sweater or the Whale on the hipster guy’s book…. each little detail helps build the character. As an avid subway rider, I’ve had my fair share of weird rides but having these ads to look at helps make it a little sweeter.

1 more day! 1 more day!

Did you guys know today is a leap day? I feel like it’s one of those things that sort of creeps up on you. Like, you might overhear someone mention it while getting coffee and you think “oh, huh, you’re right…” but then you forget about it again. If you really think about it though, you’re given an extra WHOLE day to add to your {already fantastic} 2012 to do whatever you’d like. I have to say, it’s kind of cool. So go do something fun and out of the box on your extra day. Make it a good one!

Roald Dahl Stamps

The other day my friend sent me this link {spotted first on A Cup of Jo} and I nearly shot out of my seat with excitement. Now, it’s no secret that a I am stamp geek {like my bloggie friend Jaime} so seeing two of my favorite things together: the stories of Roald Dahl plus the illustrations of Quentin Blake combined with postage stamps, was a little piece of love on a Monday morning. Growing up, I read Roald Dahl like a crazy lady. And the truth is, I still do. Just the other day I popped into our local bookstore and bought the BFG for kicks. It smells like the 4th grade and I love it. {really, I smelled the book- kind of weird.} These stamps are perfection, just another reason why I should be living in London. Cheers!

Happy Valentine’s Day

I know Valentine’s Day isn’t the most authentic holiday, but I love it anyways. I am thinking back to the days when we would pass out Valentine’s to classmates by putting them into a decorated brown lunch bag that were stuck to the back of your chair. Weren’t those the good old days? Now go eat some chocolate and try to make funny phrases using only conversation hearts.
