Ye Olde Candle Design

I adore vintage packaging, it always feels so effortless. I love to scour the flea market and find little bits and pieces that showcase retro design. So when I saw these amazing candles at Anthropologie last week, I fell in love. The design is inspired by vintage apothecary labels. I know the vintage thing is getting a little played out but I think this design is really well done. That quintessential french blue against the creamy ceramic is perfect. With the simple cork lid, these candles are perfectly classic {and they smell amazing!}.

Blind Impression Printing

One of the best parts about going with letterpress printing is the extreme crisp finish you get on a job. Flat printing is great because you can use lots of color and really play up the design. But if you want a simple, clean design then letterpress is the way to go. One of my favorite letterpress treatments is blind impression printing. This is when the printer makes a plate for a second color to be printed but leaves out the ink. The design is then pressed into the paper but with no ink, creating the blind impression. It makes for a really cool design effect. The job below has a compass blind impressed to a thick letterpress stock. I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out!

Keeping Busy

Lots of production going on around these parts… there is something so pretty about the process of putting things together {especially when you have a very organized intern!}. I love seeing everything neatly stacked up and ready to go out. Sort of makes me giddy. Here is a sneak peek of our Cape May wedding suite, looking forward to sharing the full suite soon!

Oh, Hi Spring!

Not that we had much of a winter {I’m a Syracuse Grad- those were real winters!} but I am welcoming Spring with nothing but love. I can’t wait to enjoy the longer afternoons and warmer weather. Happy Spring everyone!

SCD in New York Weddings

Once a week I go to my mailbox and find a brand new New York magazine tucked in among the bills and junk. I automatically get a big smile on my face because this is always a very good thing. NY mag is a staple for many New Yorkers, it’s always chock full of the best things NYC has to offer. They also have a wedding edition called New York Weddings that comes out once every Winter and Summer. It’s a hip, fresh approach to weddings with the very best of the industry bursting on every page. I am beyond thrilled to have three of our pieces appear in the Summer 2012 edition! Our Chicago Suite, Pop Art Save the Date and the Scratch Off Save the Date all got some action, how exciting! To be on the same page with some of the best designers in the industry is a total honor. Thanks NY mag for the love! Also a special thanks to Ashlea Halpern for the consideration and help.

Getting Lucky!

Ok guys, not going to lie- I’ve been in the weeds big time this week! And yes, I am borrowing that semi-annoying phrase from my college waitressing days. It’s been a crazy week but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Next week I’m looking forward to sharing some cool new SCD deets and projects. Also, we’ve been working on a HUGE project that I can’t wait to share! Good things coming… hope you all have a great St. Patrick’s Day. Go throw on some green and have a great time!

Vintage Stationery

A friend of mine sent me this lovely thank you note on her Grandmother’s vintage stationery. I know this scene isn’t quite fitting for the 70+ degrees that are expected tomorrow but nevertheless, I love the simplicity of the scene. I want to jump right in and play board games with those people. I like the concept of this card though, it’s a simple tri-fold with the message on the inside. As soon as I saw this, I thought it would be a cool way to approach an RSVP card. Now, I just need to find the right job to try it out on…

Stumptown

I had a meeting at the ACE hotel last week and afterwards I treated myself to a little bevy from Stumptown Coffee Roasters. I knew Stumptown coffee from visiting Portland, Oregon but I didn’t realize they had a fancy little set up right in the ACE {and also one right here in BK!} I had a lovely cup of tea and also grabbed one of their great business cards. I love the cobalt and cream combination. It’s really punchy while still having a vintage feel to it. I also think the hand drawn illustrations are pretty darn fantastic.

Little Prizes

My birthday was a few weeks ago and I was lucky enough to spend the day with my favs and even get a few cute prizes. Below are two of my treasures, who doesn’t love a fresh roll of glitter twine and two-tone colored pencils? I’m a lucky lady.
